January 11: Victor Valley Graduate Carlos Morales will be fighting at a SparStarMMA event held at the Commerce Casino.

January 18: Ryan Gattis and Dimitri Salem will be representing Cobra Kai in Victorville at Hendo Sport Management event held at the Dan Henderson’s AFC in Temecula, CA

February 8: Hesperia Graduate and Cobra Kai fighter Dominick Reyes will face Jon Jones for the UFC Light Heavyweight title.  The event will be held at the Toyota Center in Houston.

March 21: California Fight League returns to the SBC Fairgrounds in Victorville. Rich Mapstead (Apple Valley grad), Tony Gomez (Cobra Kai), Ryan Gattis (Cobra Kai), Ramona Esparza (Mafra BJJ in Hesperia), and Michelle Winkhart (White Tiger in Hesperia) are on the fight card.

December 14: Buck Acosta (Barstow High School Graduate) and Ed Bas (Universal Grappling Academy in Victorville) are both winners at a Gladiator Challenge event held at the Soboba Sports Complex in San Jacinto, CA.

December 8: At a King of the Cage event held at the Toyota Arena in Ontario, Williams wins a King of the Cage Bantamweight title

Aaron Williams handed Juan Beltran his first career loss Sunday night at a King of the Cage event at the Toyota Arena in Ontario. Williams won the 145-pound Bantamweight title via three round unanimous decision. (30-27, 29-28, 30-27).  Williams fights out of Cobra Kai in Victorville.

Five other local fighters competed on the card.  Victor Sydnor, a Victorville resident, lost to Alan Martinez in the Amateur Jr. Flyweight  (125-pound) title match up. Sydnor lost via ref stoppage due to strikes 2:54 minutes into round one.

Jesus Moreno, also representing Cobra Kai, lost to Nick Angeloni via three round unanimous decision; Dylan Morales representing Cage Combat Academy in Victorville, defeated Diego Madrigal via KO (leg kick) 1:36 into round one; Carl Culpepper (Hesperia High School Graduate) lost to Irvins Ayala via KO 35 seconds into round one: and Brandon Rivera (Victor Valley High School Graduate) lost to Miguel Guzman via three round unanimous decision.

November 22: Victor Valley Graduate Carlos Morales lost to William Herrera via submission 2:57 into round one at an Epic Fighting event held at the Four Points Sheraton in San Diego.

November 16: Victor Valley graduate Eddie Lopez handed Kenny Klein his first career loss Saturday night at the California Fight League’s The Rock’n Roll Festival at the SBC Fair.

Lopez, who was named to the Daily Press’ All-Area wrestling team (125 pounds) in 2011, beat Klein for the CFL featherweight title. Lopez won the 145-pound title via unanimous decision with scores of 29-28, 29-28, 30-27.

Rich Mapstead defended his lightweight with a split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) victory over Ever Hernandez in a three-round bout in the 155-pound division. Mapstead graduated from Apple Valley and Victor Valley College, and fights out of Marcelo Mafra Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, in Apple Valley.

Five other local fighters competed on the card, including a all-local clash between Kristy Hernandez and Michelle Winkhart. Hernandez, who trains out of Cobra Kai, won via submission after applying an arm bar on Winkhart (White Tiger Martial Art, and Cage Combat Academy) in the second round.

Dimitri Salem (Cobra Kai) beat Nikolai Parks by split decision; Juan Rubio (Cobra Kai) defeated Kainalu Kimokeo via unanimous decision; and Ramona Esparza (Marcelo Mafra Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and American Jiu Jitsu) lost by a first-round knockout against Joselin Fuller.

October 18: Hesperia High School Graduate Dominick Reyes defeated Chris Weidman in the main event at UFC Fight Night 162. Reyes won via KO/TKO (punches) 1:43 into round one.  The event was held at the TD Arena in Boston.

October 4: Brandon Hastings owner of the White Tiger Martial Arts in Hesperia, lost to undefeated Russian Valdimir Vokov at Bellator 229 event held at the Pechanga Casino in Temecula, CA. Hastings lost via 3 round unanimous decision. 

Sept 28: Sultana High School Graduate Juan Archuleta lost to Patricio “Pitbull” Freire Bellator’s 145-pound title holder in the opening round of the 16-man Bellator featherweight tournament grand prix. Archuleta lost via 5 round unanimous decision. The event was held at The Forum in Inglewood, Calif.

Sept 28: Barstow Grad, Buck Acosta defeated Chuck Diesel for the Gladiator Challenge Super Fight title belt.  Acosta won via arm triangle 33 seconds into round one. The event will be held at the Soboba Sports Complex in San Jacinto.

Sept 21: Aryion Young representing Cobra Kai in Victorville and Dan Henderson’s Gym won against Julius Wright for the  559 Fights event 145 pound title belt held at the Rainbow Ballroom in Fresno, CA

Sept 7: Phelan resident Johnny Munoz defeated Ian King via rear naked choke 3:33 into round two at a King of the Cage event held at the Blue Water Resort and Casino in Parker, AZ.  

August 3: At a California Fight League event held at the San Bernardino Fairgrounds in Victorville, CA. Five local fighters represented Cobra Kai in Victorville.

Tony Gomez defeated Ever Hernandez via three round decision.

Ryan Gattis lost to Jose Castrejon Reyna via rear naked choke submission 39 seconds into round two

Allenita Perez lost to Maraya Miller via KO 19 seconds into round three.

Dimitri Salem lost to Kenny Klein via TKO 32 seconds into round two

Vicente Alvarado lost to Zachary Shugart via three round unanimous decision.

 

July 6: Aaron Trobee representing Gracie  Jiu Jitsu Apple Valley lost to Francisco Ortega via decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at a SparStarMMA event held at the Commerce Casino in Commerce, CA. The bout won “Fight of the Night” honors. 

June 23: Victor Valley Grad Carlos Morales defeated Jobani Herrera via submission 2:53 into round two at a Roy Englebrecht event held at the San Diego County Fair grounds

June 22, Oak Hills resident Johnny Munoz defeated Otgontulga Rentsen for the King of the Cage flyweight title at the Toyota Arena in Ontario. Munoz won via five round unanimous decision (50-45, 48-47,49-47).  He remains undefeated with a record of 9-0.

Four other local mixed martial arts fighters competed on this card. 

Jonathan Noriega represented Cobra Kai and The Bullet Hole in Victorville defeated Gibran Alvarez via KO 1:32 into round one and Robert Hernandez (Cobra Kai) defeated Rick James via rear naked choke 1:45 into round three.

Albert Veloz represented Cage Combat Academy in Victorville. Veloz lost to  Anthony Jimenez via three round unanimous decision (29-28, 29-27, 29-28) and Aaron Williams from Lucerne Valley represented Cobra Kai.  Williams lost to Richie Palomino via tapout due to Kimura 3:57 into round two.

June 14: Sultana Grad Juan Archuleta defeated former two time Bellator bantamweight champion Eduardo Dantas via KO 4:59 into round two at a Bellator 222 event held at Madison Square Garden in New York  

June 7: At an LFA 69 event held at the Morongo Casino in Cabazon, CA. Brandon Hastings owner of White Tiger Martial Arts in Hesperia defeated Jose Campos via TKO, Dr. stoppage 3:14 into round three. 

June 1: At a Gladiator Challenge event held at the Soboba Sports Complex in San Jacinto.  Andrew Mazziotti representing Universal Grappling Academy in Victorville defeated Philip Lomeli via three round split decision.  Apple Valley resident Nick Vanderpool, defeated Victorville resident Jon Nelson via TKO ref stoppage due to strikes 2:04 into round one,  Sun Davis represented Houdini grips MMA in Helendale defeated Steve Mitchell via tap out 35 seconds into round one and Garreth Lopez Sultana High School grad and Master Mind Martial Arts in Fitness in Hesperia lost to Wilton Ziglar via three round unanimous decision.

 

May 18: Jesus Moreno (Cobra Kai in Victorville) lost to Vincent Arredondo via Ref. stoppage on the advice of the cage physician end of round one  at a King of the Cage event held at the Blue Water Resort and Casino in Parker, AZ. 

April 20: At a California Fight League event held at the SBC Fair in Victorville.  Cobra Kai Martial Arts go 2 – 0 on the night. Tony Gomez def. Quincy Holland via three round unanimous decision (30-24, 30-26,30-26) and Vicente Alvarado def. Erick Aceves via KO (head kick) 6 seconds into round one.

March 23: Barstow High School Graduate, Buck Acosta lost via rear naked choke 1:24 into round two at a Gladiator Challenge event held at the Thunder Valley Casino and Resort in Lincoln, CA. 

March 16: Hesperia High School Grad, Dominick Reyes. defeated Volkan Oezdemir via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night 147 event held in London, England.

March 10: Albert Veloz, represented Cage Combat Academy in Victorville, lost to Arnold Jimenez via three round split decision (29-28,28-29,29-28) at King of the Cage event held at the Citizens Business Bank Area in Ontario. 

March 10: Jamal Pogues (Cobra Kai in Victorville and University Prep Graduate) defeated Kasey Sanders for the California Cage Wars Heavyweight Title Belt.  Pogues won via KO (head kick) 2:21 into round one. 

January 26th: Sultana High School Graduate, Juan Archuleta defeated Ricky Bandejas via three round unanimous decision at a Bellator 214 event held at the Forum in Inglewood, California.
